Who is the best Manager , better than the IIMs and better then number crunching , nerve wracking honchos . It was way back in 2003 , I attended a Managerial Development programme at NITIE Powai through Navy .
This simple film was shown on one afternoon post lunch , Movies are played after lunch for an hour so that there are two options either you sleep completely or the impact of the movie is such that u r wide awake through the rest of your life.
One such simple movie was “Mother the best Manager” . It shows a lady an housewife managing everything in her day to day life without any expectations or without any rewards. The movie maker had related this movie beautifully in to comparison with the Corporate works.
She handles dimplomatically the two tiers / even three tiers of the house i.e In- laws (Top Management) , Husband (CMD ) , childrens ( Executives ) , maids ( employees) and mind you she handles with an ease of Narayan Murthy or may be Ratan Tata . You can hardly see any differences or very little difference ( Dispute ) , she is at ease managing the expectations of various tiers , if there is any conflict arising she is the first one to offer a ear ( one of the good attributes of a manager – Listening ) and almost in all cases she is able to manage the conflict . Even when the kids are in the growing stage and when they are in transition to teenage , she is the one who manages all the resistance to change syndrome and ensure a smooth transaction . Wherever things go way ward she does a course correction through daily Review and takes necessary corrective and preventive action. She reviews her action and sees the effectiveness of the same .
She manages the Finance like household expenses and income from dad , she budgets , she forecasts and above all she generates a surplus and plan for future requirements too . Cost cutting during recession is one of the best traits of her, she manages / integrate so . She manages stores , rawmaterials in the house through rationing and everything is in perfection . She teaches value, she bribes to children and even husband if required . She encourages ( Motivation in Corporate Parlance) to take up new things , simple and unassuming yet she don’t ask for a promotion or a reward . She is in a constant look out for the right guy for her daughter and the right girl for her son ( Acquisition) , when time comes , she gradually allows the daughter in law to take over ( Smooth Handing over – Transition ) and enjoys her life . Simple and unassuming she is the best manager in the world , better than the Harvards and the IIMs .
And Dad take all the credits in the pretext of guiding her J-
